INDIANAPOLIS (May 8, 2019)—Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Fuel the Female today announced a partnership for Fuel the Female’s second annual event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 14, 2019.
Through this partnership, Fuel the Female powered by HPD is able to host over 100 Indianapolis-area female, high school students for a day of STEM related activities on the opening day of Indianapolis 500 practice.
“Honda Racing/HPD is gratified to support the second annual ‘Fuel the Female’ event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said American Honda Motor Company Inc.’s manager of motorsports public relations, T.E. McHale. “It is important that we play a role in introducing girls and young women to motorsports, and especially to STEM-related opportunities in motorsports. Honda Performance Development will have two female engineers supporting its Honda-powered teams during the 103rdrunning of the Indianapolis 500. We look forward to welcoming many more in future years; perhaps even some who have attended ‘Fuel the Female’ events.”
This event will be the second for Fuel the Female at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This year, the event is expanding to include four different school districts throughout the Indianapolis area. Female students from IUPUI’s School of Engineering will mentor the high school students through building a model car that they will race at the culmination of the day.
“This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of HPD,” said Fuel the Female executive director, Katie Hargitt. “Because of their support we are able to provide hands-on activities for the students this year, and provide them a peek inside a career in STEM through motorsports.”
